I just purchased an offset D44 axle with a full floater kit and a detroit locker installed. Based on the part numbers on the axles, the kit appears to be from 4 wheel parts wholesale, who has discontinued the kit. Does anyone have any experience with this kit? I would like to know how it has held up. I plan on running 33 inch tires and doing moderate wheeling with it. Any info, pros and cons, would be appreciated.

    Re: Full Floater qestion

If the outboard splines are fine-- say more than 15 per axle then it will be stronger than a stock 2 piece axle. The inboard are likely 19 splines--if from an early CJ5--32 if after 1971. Some full floater were made with 10 splines outboard. Others were made with the same spline number that came with a Dana 25 front-end. They did that to use Stock early Jeep front hubs on their FF rear. These were weak compared to the full floaters that used the stock Dana 30 hubs which have more finer cut splines. This Full-floaters that had fewer outboard splined axles cut too deep into the softer inner metal part of the axle causing the shaft to break more easily. Most of these were home-made full-floating set-ups though and are pretty rare. Stock two piece tapered axles with separate hubs need to be upgraded if you are running 33s or bigger. Otherwise ( with small tires) the two piece axles are OK for strength.

The ff that I have has 19 spline inner and 27 splin outer axles. The outer spline count is to match external, dana 30 hubs. The hubs are the Warn Premiums with studs rather than bolts holding them on the wheel hub. I'm assuming this setup is stronger then the stock tapered axle and hub. Has anyone had a problem with the 4 wheel parts wholesale axles failing? I would gues that they had one of the large axle manufatures do the machining of the axles and they just packaged them into their ff kit. I believe Warn had done the same thing.

I had the WARN kit a while ago when i had the original axles in my jeep. They were 19 spline inners and 32 or something outer. They were not regular outer hubs, they were a special hub so you had to buy the WARN hubs to make it work :( I never broke them and loved the setup. Only issue i didnt like was the hubs would unlock if you didnt have the little set screw tightened. great setup.

I have an older 4WP FF kit on mine....almost 15 years now.
    19 inners
    27 outers
I haven't had any problems in that time.
I run the drive flanges off road..my belief is they are stronger for wheeling in rocks.
I install the hubs when I intend to tow.
I also have a Power Lok if that matters and run 31" tires.
if I were to break a shaft, I figured Moser or Superior could always make one for me.
