I'm almost ready to install an overdrive in my 71 CJ5 w/ a 225. I noticed a gunky sealant was used over the gasket material. Is this just RTV or something else? I don't want to install this thing and then have a ton of oil leaking onto the concrete through the bolt holes. Thanks in advance.

I usually use one or the other but not both a gasket and RTV. I do put RTV on the bolt threads to help reduce leaks ikf I do not use a gasket. When I installed my OD a few months back I used the gasket Herm supplied and no RTV

Since the gaskets are not in that great of shape, looks like I"ll be going with RTV, thanks!

not hard to make a gasket. FLAPS sells gasket paper, use the smallest ballpeen hammer you can find to tap the paper around the hole to cut it. with a little practice you can turnout gaskets just as good as the factory (but cheaper).

I would avoid sillycone and use permatex. sillycone dries out and pematex doesn't.
