I've been meaning to get a thread started on my (re)build for a while. After taking it all the way down to the frame, it has started to come back together. I'll try and post a couple of pics here and follow up with some text later.

I have this one for a long time (20+ yrs) and it's gone through a couple of total rebuilds. Mainly for the fun of it. I never rush through it (so it won't be done next month...).

    Thanks -

Here’s the short list. I have many items I’m going to fab up – some done, some under way.

    Chevy small block
    TH350
    Dana 20
    MT 31’s
    2.5 Lift
Wide track axles from an ’82 Cj7 (3.73)

    For driveline:
I have 2 other sets of axles with 5.38 and somethin’ else – can’t recall off top of my head. A rebuilt 18 T case to go with one offset axle set. And a 300 mated to a T4. For this build I chose to go with the wide tracks, 20, and TH350 (rebuilt) since I’ll be doing only mild trail rides with the rig, but will have enough if I get into some trouble. I’m savings some of the other stuff for a possible 3A project that could develop.

What you see in the picture…

Frame was sand blasted and then powder coated with micro black (between satin and gloss).
New springs, shackles (going to swap these out again with a greasable set that is only .75 longer than stock), shocks, bushings
Wide tracks “refreshed” with new seals, etc. and painted with Eastwood Chassis black (surprisingly durable)
Front end rebuilt with new rotors, calipers, bearings, seals, all new ball joints, tie rods, drag links, etc. Wanted that front end tight for my saggy PS set up.
    New 15x8 steel cheapies
New 31x10.5 MT (5 of them)
Block “refreshed” with new seals, oil pump, water pump, fuel pump, block hugger headers (going to run the exhaust inside the frame to back this time – had fender well headers exiting before the rear wheels last time), dead soft header gaskets, locking header bolts, and some other do-dads.
    TH350 rebuilt
    Dana 20 “refreshed”
Rear tank ready to install with skid plate sand blasted then painted with Eastwood Chassis black

You also see the customer rear bumper, tire carrier, and jerry can rack. More on that later…

    Thanks,

Me too. My 61 is mostly stock except for the plow on the front (which doesn't get used anymore). My dad used the rig to plow the drive. I inherited the truck and now winterize it - only summer miles now. when it did get winter time, it was only on the farm - so no salt. metal is in great shape.

Here are a couple of pics on the rear tire carrier. Another guy welded it up for me. If I did it again, I'd make the bumper just a bit less stout. The tire swing arm is lighter gauge steel and does the job really well.

Bumper is airtight (for possible air fitting later - But I'll probably just go the route of a compressor).
2 recovery points welded through and 2" reciever
attaches to rear cross member and center frame point with 12 grade 8 bolts.
swinging tire carrier with adjustable jerry can carriers.
Jerry can carriers are set high enough to clear late cj5 tail light location. They adjust to accomodate 35" tire.
tire mount is also adjustable allowing for different width tires

Still need to fab the mounts for my hi-lift and shovel.

The OD Jerry can you see came off an M1 tank...
