I am getting the the point where I am planing to take my 1961 CJ-5 out on a trail for the first time and I wanted to get all the fluids changed. Transmission, T-case front and read Diff. What fluid type\brand is recommended.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Would you happen to know the fluid capacities of each?

Just FYI, I went to the minor trouble of going to a 2nd parts store to find MT-1 rated gear oil for the trans and Tcase due to the "yellow metal" parts. No diff in price. :)

I use 85w90 in axles and 85w140 in trans/transfer and axle knuckles (leaks out slower).

I also run about a cup (1/2 cup in knuckles) of lucas oil additive in each. made the Dana 18 quieter and seems to leak a little slower than plain oil.

hmm the knuckles, I never knew about that. This is my first CJ so I just thought that they had just plain grease.

    1. Buy a Factory Service Manual (FSM)
    2. Search the forum for "Knuckle Pudding".

    :)
