Front axle wrap???

I noticed the other day that it looks like the geometry of my front end is changing. Take a look at the pics. Pic one is after backing in to the driveway. It looks to me that the tires are nearly vertical. Pic two is after driving ahead ten feet and braking to a stop. It looks like the caster (or is it camber?) has changed. Now the tires are bottom in/top out. Follow me?

I running Rancho replacement springs with 1" lift shackles and no degree shims. Front axle is the stock Dana 25 but with 11" brakes. I've had no steering issues like death wobble, but tire wear is poor as the inside is wearing fast.

So what do I do? Degree shims?

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

I'm trying to figure out how that can change in only 10 feet...
u-bolts loose and/or spring center bolts broken and/or not engaged in the proper hole ?
perch mounts missing broken loose from the housing ?

Check your spring bushings as well. I have not seen it that bad, but have seen them make a differance simular to that.

I think the axle tubes are bent. A good jump should bend back to straight.

Nice Jeep. I think that is the suspension combo I should have gone with.

Your Problem is centered around the For Sale sign in the rear window!

My A1 does that, too. My problem is the Kingpin bearings. Jack the front up and give the tires an in and out wiggle at the top and see what happens.

Good eye...but the sign said "Yard Sale" and it really caught people's eye.

I didn't detect any earlier this summer, but that makes the most sense. I'll double check.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Check tie rod ends and bellcrank bearings as well. If the tre's are worn the toe will change backing up vs. going forward and can do just what you describe. Check all the things already mentioned as they can affect it as well. Nickmil

It's got to be king pins or bearings. That the only thing that can change the camber on a solid axle, unless it's bent. But to change that much in 10' is unreal.

Its 60 years old. They marketed it as a replacement for the tractor. I doubt tire wear was a primary concern :) Mine does that too. I never really gave much though to it but i have a spring over lift on mine so it does weird things sometimes

    I hear ya!
It's always been like that (top-out/bottom-in), but alfter backing in, it seemed really pronounced. When it stops snowing (and I get some time) I'll dig into all of the bearings.

King bearings, caster, camber...what ever. The king bearings I've seen are always worn out, the races always show a "ripple" The problem is that all the usual wear is during front ahead driving. this leaves a "divot" on the race. these don't have the regular 360 degree wear like a wheel bearing

Jeep2003 - nice Cockshutt...narrow front ends scare me

I guess I'd better get moving on that Dana 27 rebuild that I started last spring...
