Shouldnt have to worry about warping it welding perches on. Most of the time people worry about warping is welding trusses on when you have to weld long sections at a time.

x2. If you get worried, so half of one side, then do the other, and let cool down. Axle tubes are rather thick.

I agree with the other guys. My experiece has been that they don't warp all that easily, BUT, I do part of one side of one perch, do the opposite side of same perch, then do the same on the other side, returning to the first side to finish it up and then the second. I have MIG and TIG'd perches on and haven't had warping issues. My experience suggests you need at least 150 amps to get good penetration although I did my second set on a 8.5" 10 bolt for a firebird with my 145 amp 230 volt machine. That car ran 10.18 at 127 mph which is about 650 hp at the wheels.

I read somewhere to do an inch at a time so it doesnt get too hot. And from what i recall you shouldnt weld down the length of the tube at all but that doesnt make sense because they weld trusses on. Id say just use your best judgement and dont let it get too hot :)

thats what i was thinking, do small beads at a time and alternate the side you are welding on so it doesnt get to hot. Dan, do you have any pics of how you outboarded your springs in the front? Thanks Guys

I am not sure how much you have to do with a scout axle.

Not a bad set up dan. Did you use a mig? possibly a flux core? Looks good though. The finished product looks good. :) Did you use a 220v machine? Hopefully I don't need to do what you needed to do....I don't think I could have the patience to weld a long time. I have done lots of welding lately and I am kind of burned out for a short time. Looks good. happy trails.
