I insatlled my carb the other night, about midnight. (I work on my jeep when I cant sleep)
Once I got it on I went to start it it started just fine, but was running way to fast. Now the installation manual did not specify what screw did what but I figgered that the two screws on the back of the carb adjust the idle and such. I basicley had to take out the inside screw all the way out,, just to get it not to race. Now it runs better that before but it sputter pretty bad when I first start it, it kind of dound like a muscle car with real nice exhasut. That is the bes way to describe the sound.

However it did not fully remedy my problem of struggling to get to higher speed, anything above 50 or so. Would adjusting the fuel/air mixture help this or should I move on to somthing else. I eventually plan on buyin a new cat and muffler and tightning my exhaust. Other than that what would be a possible easy fix for this.

I will probally drop my exauhst down and make sure hothing is clogged or badly bent or broken.

As to the idle issue, one of those screws is the idle screw, the other is the fast idle screw. When the choke plate closes, it rotates a stepped cam under the fast idle screw. You want the fast idle screw to set the idle to around 1200 to 1400 rpm on the second highest step on the cam. As the choke warms up and the plate opens, you can pop the throttle and that cam will fall away from the fast idle screw. Then the regular idle speed screw takes over. If the idle doesn't drop as the choke opens (remember, you have to goose the throttle to make it drop), check for binding and sticking in the fast idle linkage (it's easy to see and check.)

Adjusting idle mixture won't do anything to affect how the engine runs above idle.
