Got the OD assembled, just can't get the nut off the back of the transfer case's main shaft. The transfer case was rebuilt 2-3 years ago, looks good as new on the inside. Anyone have some hints on what to do here? I've used a 1.5' breaker bar on it, but it hasn't moved after SEVERAL hours. I'm afraid a longer breaker bar will just slip off and round out the nut.

Yes for sure it will take an impact too get that off. You can also use a small propane torch to warm the nut a little bit, emphasis on the little bit.

The spec. for installing that nut is 130-170ft lbs, so it will probably take more then that to get it off:shock:

Mebbe borrow a 3/4" drive socket set and a piece of pipe?

As easy as that nut is to to get to, it might be worth driving the Jeep to a shop and ask the nice man for 3 minutes of his time with his zip-gun. Cold beer often works as a subtle bribe! :D

I bought a cheapo electric impact wrench from Harbor Freight. It works great. If you have a small compressor it will be a waste of time to get an air impact wrench as you'll run out of pressure too fast.

becareful heating up the nut, if doesn't have the cotter pin, as you will melt the nylon locking ring inside.
