T-18 Problem

Well, I finally got all the new parts installed. What a project this turned out to be! Had to modify the exhaust, fabricate brackets, re-align clutch linkage, change t-case yokes, etc.,etc.

The 23mm thick bearing did the trick. No input shaft end play. It now stays in fourth gear. I also discovered the hard way that the t-18 has to be in 2nd gear to put the cover on and to take it off.

The new clutch kit is an AC Delco brand. It came with a 3-finger type pressure plate. Man, is it hard to push! It flexes the 1/4" thick steel bellcrank pivot arm bracket I made. I'm tempted to put in the diaphragm type that was in there. It's still in great shape. I just don't relish the thought of taking everything apart again:(.

Here are a few pics of the job...

The fourth one shows the stainless steel telescopic t-case tube I made to install the twin shifter. With the stock tube, you had to separate the tranny from the t-case to install the twin shifter. now, I can remove it anytime through the tower coverplate, which, as you can see in the third pic, I have to add on to.

Thanks for all the help ! I really appreciate it!

    nickmil In mothballs.

Glad you got it all worked out! I use the diaphragm style clutches whenever possible because they are much easier to push and easier on the clutch linkage. The Auburn/Borg and Beck style tend to clamp better though.
