I know sometimes you get what you pay for, but I wonder if sometime you just pay for a name. I am think about buying a winch and Milemark clearly is the least expensive. Anybody have one or had a good / bad experience with one? I am thing about the 12000lb model.

On a CJ, you can use an 8000 or 9000 unless you plan on pulling mired farm tractors or Superdutys. Warn or Ramsey make inexpensive 8000s with mounting kits that actually fit your vehicle.

I've got a Milemarker 8000 electric. Don't use it a whole lot, but it's always been there when I needed it. I paid just under $400. I saw Harbor Freight was selling something that look very similar for under $300.

I try not to rely on a winch, but someitmes..... If I was a trail leader or an every weekend rock crawler I'd probably get something different, but I think the MM8000 fits my application very well.

  4. I spoke with Herm this morning. He carries the milemarker 9000 for $475. I think he does carry the 12000 and also has several used units (Belleview and 8274 Warn units).

Joel, what kind of $ is herm getting on the 8274?

  8. You would have to call him. 360.256.3843. I was talking to him yesterday regarding some spare hubs and asked about winches. He just mentioned that he had several Warns both Belleview and the 8274 style available.

I went through this decision myself sometime ago and ended up purchasing a used Warn Belleview on eBay for $255.

  9. Here's a pic of Barrys CJ5 with a Belleview on the front

There's also some links to Belleview information in the weblinks section (see front page).
