I have started fabing a console with a 40 mm ammo can.
I put the radio (deck) in the top of the lid at the leading edge.
    Basicaly under my hand.
I got the good idea of putting a padded cover over the top and hideing the radio under it.
    but instead of a hinge.
I was thinking it would be cool to have it the pad just slide back and reveal the deck.
Maybe when slid forward it could be locked in place.

Anybody have any ideas on some kind of sliding deal that would work.

I am thinking a thin pad and maybe mdf for its frame.
the box is plenty high so thin would be good.

I put a courtesy light in the front of it facing the shifter.
And the amp is going inside.
Figure I'll put in a small fuse box for everthing including power takeoff for my seats ect.
Still be plenty of room for stashing stuf like the 357 ect.

Get a stainless dwr slide. Rockler.com or Woodcraft.com is a good place to start. You can even get a catch that will work. Don't use MDF, it's not water proof. I'd use a good 1/2" exterrior grade, good quality plywood.

Or find a place that sells used office furniture and see how cheap you can buy some file drawers. Use the drawer slides (they'll be HD to support the weight of a drawer full of paper) and you can scavenge the sheet metal for other uses.

Every time I looked at new drawer slides the price was too high.

I just remodeled the Kitchen and have some extra slides.
Was thinking they would stand up to high.
But if I could build into the bottom of the pad maybe I could lower it enough to hide the slide.
Would need a latch to keep it from sliding back with some kind of lock would be good.

Was thinking about a steel frame for the pad but need to attach the cover to some thing.
was thinking if wood I could staple to that.
Cant be too tall becase the box is plenty high now.

Will post a couple pics soon.

Do you plan to have some type of ventilation fan in the box to keep the amp cool???

I drilled some small holes around the box just below the lid, so we'll see.
