I have started working through the electrical on my 54 m170 and need some electrical guidance.
    What I think I know...
-it was converted to 12v at some point before it got to me
    -civvy plugs/wires/distributor
    -it has an alternator
    -I am not getting spark

What I would like to know....
-what is the simplest electrical setup for this motor (f134)
-what parts I can use to peice this together (for now I am not concerned about authenticity)

    Thanks in advance

The simplest is the stock civvy wiring setup, wiring diagrams are in the tech section. It will probably be faster/easier/cheaper to go with something like a Painless wiring harness (do a search here for more details).

As for no spark get a voltmeter & check for 12 volts at the + terminal of the coil when the ignition is on, if it's not there that's your problem. If it is there go to the - terminal and while cranking the engine check that the voltage there is bouncing between 12 & 0. if it stays on 0 then the coil is bad or the points are stuck closed. if it stays at 12 then the points aren't closing at all. If does change while cranking & still no spark then its a bad coil or distributor cap/rotor button.

Depending on which coil got put in there you may or may not need a resister in the + lead feeding the coil, it doesn't show up in the Willys wiring diagrams because the 6 volts systems didn't need it & 12 volt models used a coil with an internal resister.

3 wires one from batt to ignition switch, one out of ign switch to coil, the other to starter solenoid if equiped with solenoin. ie foot starter with linkage its pretty simple to me but thats me:rofl: what type of charging system do you have? delco alternator/ generator etc? the delco can be as simple as one more wire or 3

This is how I wired up my test stand. Worked great.
