When I got my '69 with the F134, it had a factory installed PTO winch, but was missing the exhaust system between the Exhaust Manifold and the muffler. As I pulled the body today for the frame off, I got to looking at where the exhaust should be routed and I simply don't think there's a sufficient amount of room to route the exahust system the way the Factory Manual, or the Jeep Bible shows it in the depictions.

The PTO shaft comes very close to the steering draglink, and there doesn't seem to be enough room to accomodate the exhaust within the same space between the frame rail and the engine, let alone route it to the rear and over the crossmember. Does anyone out there have a PTO winch that could send me some pictures of how they have their exhaust routed?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

What type of winch do you have? Is it a Koenig with the chain drive PTO ? I have some copies of the Koenig instructions on how to re-route the exhaust.........I may even be able to find the website I got them from

Wow, ask and ye shall receive! Thanks for all of the quick replies. I went to the links and things are a little clearer now. I have a Koenig King Winch Model 151J, but the PTO is a Ramsey Model PT1-J. Will that make any difference since the winch and PTO are made by differant manufacturers? I was surprised they called the engine mounted bearing a "pillow block" in the diagrams, I thought it was called a carrier bearing.

The PTO also has an output shaft sicking out of the rear of the unit. Does this mean it also supplies power to any rear mounted implements? And if so, does it run both front and rear shafts simultaneously, or independent of each other? Last summer an old farmer stopped by my house during a yard sale and said he's got an old Rear PTO from an old Willys Overland Agri-Jeep that mounts on the rear of the Jeep and said I could have it if I came by his farm. Maybe I should take him up on his offer?

    Thanks for all your help.

Go cruising through my page listed below, I've got sections on PTOs & winches with links to all kinds of information. I believe the PT1-J will spin both the front & back shafts at the same time,, for separate outputs the model designation would be a "PT2" & it would have two control levers.

The rear mount gear reduction boxes are hot items on Ebay, in good condition they can go for $250+, about the same for the right angle belt drive drum attachment. If Mr. Farmer has the "PTO shield" grab it as well, apparently these things are Uber Rare.

& yes, "pillow block" is common terminology.

I'm not sure where the 134 exhaust goes, but I have a 67 with the 225 and a Koenig PTO. After a couple of exhaust systems that were completely unsatisfactory (including the factory original and headers) I went to a local muffler shop. This guy was a wizard. I told him duals were OK, but not mandatory as I knew the winch would make it hard. When I came back he told me that he didn't like what it would look like on the passenger side, so he ran it along the winch drive line.

Some 30 years later, the system is pretty rusty and may have to be replaced before long, but it hasn't leaked or rattled in all that time.

Thanks to everyone for their responses. Between the links and the pics I think I'll be able to figure it out. I have a ways to go before I get to this point in the rebuild, but I am always trying to think three steps ahead in the process so I am not surprised by anything (it works sometimes).
