I recently completely rebuilt my brake system, new master, wheel cylinders, hoses and brake lines and was considering switching to silicone brake fluid. Any pros or cons?? Are the master and wheel cylinder seals compatable with the silicone fluid?

Don't, it's not really for your application (per say). It can give you a spongy feel because it's more compressible and it does not deal with water AT ALL. It does have a higher boiling point and does not harm paint...but, I personally would not use it in your application. No need for it really.

:iagree: Stick with DOT 3 or better regular fluid.

Been there, done that. Hated it. Use regular fluid.

Bleeding a system with silicone fluid is the definition of frustration. Stick with the 3 or 4.

I think dot 4 does not harm paint like dot 3

Can anyone confirm that DOT 4 doesn't eat paint? By the way, thanks for all the other responses you've convinced me not to use silicone fluid.

My motorcycle requires silicone for both clutch and brakes. I have to flush it every year to keep it clean and not spongy, and it starts to turn black after 1 summer. I wish I could change it to Dot 3/4...

    :iagree:

Dot 4 just has a higher boiling point.
