So.....I've got the T-90 out(piece 'o cake with a tranny jack :) ) now I'm looking at the clutch and T/O bearing. My T/O spring is MIA. I was wondering if this is due to a defect in the T/O bearing it turns smooth and takes what I estimate to be ~1.5 ft/lb so I think it's OK.

But I see what appears to be a bearing race in the assembly which looks like something belongs there but there is nothing there. Does this T/O look ok to you guys(especially the area with the arrow -- does nothing go there)?

Also I had to grind the cossmember nuts off and I crumped the bolts. I'm thinking grade 5 replacements are fine. What do you guys use?

the t/o bearing carrier is cast iron; the t/o bearing presses onto that.
The area you're pointing at I see nothing wrong with, other than dirty/greasy (normal)
That area rides on the snout of the bearing retainer; is must slide back and forth smoothly.
Clean that up and check for abnormal signs of wear inside along with the bearing retainer on the front of the trans.
Mount it on the trans and slide it back and forth maunally. You will want to add some light grease to it before you re-insall.

    Thanks.

I was wondering about that space because I thought I'd be dealing with some sort of bearing on this assembly.

Is the thing I'm pointing to in this picture below supposed to be a bearing that turns relative to the tabs on the other end of the assembly(the tabs the clutch fork engages)? Or is this whole thing just a solid chunk that turns relative to the trans input shaft?

Sorry about the questions but this is my first car sized clutch work and this clutch doesn't look anything like a sled or motorcycle clutch.

Grade 8 bolts, nuts and washers to re-install your crossmember.

the bearing on the end you are pointing to turns when contact is made with the fingers on the pressure plate.
The collar the bearing is pressed onto does not turn; it only slides back and forth on the bearing retainer on the front of the transmission.
The tabs on the collar are for the throw out fork to slide the collar forward so the bearing will make contact with the pressure plate.

Thanks. The bearing is frozen then. If it's frozen I suspect the rest of the clutch is well worn. I think I'll just get a full clutch kit then. That way I won't have to work on the clutch again any time soon.
