I haven't worked on a old CJ in a while been working on my rockcrawler rig(YJ) for the past year. I recently purchased a 66 CJ6 that was halfway into redoing it. It looks like it was going to built into a offroad mainly rig and I am needing another rig to take out that can haul more than 2 people so I figured I'd finish this project.

The jeep currently has the 225 Buick SM420 Dana 20 with a Dana 44 and Dana 30 out of a newer CJ. It currently has a lift with 33 inch TSLs. I guess here is some of the things I need some advice on.

I would like to run YJ springs to improve flex. I have couple of sets of Rubicon Express 1.5 SOA springs sitting in the shop I am thinking about using. Problem is will the 33 inch tires fit in a SUA config with the 1.5 inch YJ springs or will I be too short on lift? What sort of yj spring is required to run a 33 inch tire in SUA config? My other option is to run the 1.5 inch springs in SOA config but I'm afraid they are going to be too tall for 33 inch tires. I would like to go to a bigger tire but I want to run the axles in it for a season or two and I don't trust them with much bigger tire at the moment. Plan on going soa when I swap in different axles in couple of years.

Another thing I would like to do is get rid of the carb for either propane or a projection set up. Anyone have much luck with propane? I guess the biggest thing I can see is mounting the tanks up without taking too much room. Any ideas on this. I have two projection kits in the shop but I have never set them up. Which would you run the rig is pretty much going to be a trail only rig?

Guess the last thing is anyone ever done a full cage on a CJ6? I'm just curious what people have done trying to design a cage for it but sorta want to be able to use the half cab that came with it so that throws in some difficulties. Can anyone point me in the right direction with pictures with cage designs for these?

Guess the other things I am hoping to do is add hydraulic assist to the current saginaw power steering set up and maybe a hydroboost for the brakes. I got a Scout Dana 300 with 4:1 kit and heavy duty output that I plan on throwing in to replace the Dana 20.

I know this was long and hope you made it to the end lol. so tell me what you all think?

No propane exp with the 225, but would think it would be the same as any other carb solution.

I am looking at playing with FI this summer, looking at the MegaSquirt stuff now and would like to find a projection setup to fiddle with if I can find a used one for the right price.

From what I have read (and talked to one guy) the projection is a pretty easy setup, just analog and not digital for the tuning. PM me with your e-mail and we can chat more on it if you wish.
