Just read a couple of posts about emergency/parking brakes for Jeeps. Did my old '53 M38A1 have a park/emeg brake? I know it doesn't have one now. I sure would be interested in having one. Right now, my park brake consists of a 4x4x8 inch brick I shove under the back wheels.

The handle came out of the center of the dash I think, looks like a cane.

I have them on the CJ2's and 3's... Cane handle out of the dash to a Drum on the back of the D18 where the output shaft comes out.

You can get alot of the parts for them from Herm too.

My M38 (not A1) has its handle coming out of the dash just left of the steering wheel. It's '52. 2s and 3s have it coming out fo the center and so do the MB/GPWs IIRC.

My M38 has an M38A1 brake lever - between the seats like Michaelanglo's pic. The shoes ride on the outside of my drum - unlike the CJ parking brakes I've seen. Not sure if that piece is M38 or M38A1 or some other random bit the PO grafted on. Worked good until it was too oil soaked to do anything but rattle
