After searching the best I can tell for the float adjustment on the YF carter is 7/16. Where is that measurement made? With the float upside down from where to where?

With the air horn ( carb top ) upside down and the float resting on the needle of its own free weight the measurement is taken from the tip of the float ( right where the radius begins ) to the cover.

If you are adjusting the float for the spring loaded steel needle and seat as used on the F-Head the measurement is 5/16.

Float setting will depend on YF application, Is this a F-Head or a later six cylinder application?

I ask because the 7/16 does not sound correct for the F-Head.

I have found that using a drill bit of the proper diameter makes it easy to measure the distance.

it is a f-head. So a 5/16 drill bit should slide past under the upside down float and carb top. Thanks guys that sounds easier than with a ruler like I've been trying to do.

From what I've been looking at the hard, steel tip needle uses the 5/16" measurement. If you have the rubber tipped needle then use 1/2". Brian P has helped me get mine squared away. Listen to him if he contradicts what I type.
