Repaced the complete speedo gauge cluster in my '56 with a 12v unit. Fuel gauge works fine, but the temp gauge pegs to hot as soon as the key turns on. I'm assuming the sending unit on the motor is a 6v unit, although who knows. As I plan to run a mechanical gauge, can I just leave the wire unconnected, or swap in a new 12v sending unit with a tee and run both? Will it impact the fuel gauge if I just disconnect the sending unit wire? TIA

The temp gauge wire can be left un-connected and it will not effect or damage the fuel gauge. A mechanical temp gauge can be plumbed in with an electrical gauge combo altho I don't see the need if you install the proper 12v sender for the upgraded elect gauge. Your sender for the temp gauge used in the early cj's have a resistive value of 9 ohms hot and above 73 ohms cold.
