Tapered axles 2

    I pulled some axles tonite and I'm not sure which one to put back in. The one that came out of my jeep has smashed threads on the end so would have to go to a shop to try and save the threads. The taper on it has some galling and the key is worn. I pulled one from my spare jeep and it was on tight, no galling and the keyway and key look like new, but it has some blue marks halfway up the taper. Heat? I don't seem to be able to post pics anymore but could email if anyone wants to take a look. I am leaning towards just putting the donor parts in but wanted to check on that blue spot first.     The blue marks could possibly be from heat treating. I'd definitely use that one and not the one that is galled.

    The blue colour is from heat treating, nothing to worry about. If fact, if it isn't there you *should* be worried. :rofl:
