I have an original 75 CJ5 withe the 258/6. Approx 60,000 miles..now my daily driver.

Recently I have noticed quite a bit of creaking and sqeaking when turning the steering wheel. No power steering, so it takes a fair amount of effort to get her going in the right direction.

I have the 75 factory manual, but it does not mention lubricating the steering column. I was thinking of just pulling the steering column and using some whilte lithium grease to lubricate the moving parts. Is this a fairly easy job ?

    Thanks.........

I've done that, and at the base of the column in the engine compartment behind the u-joint. Squeaking came back. I would suspect that the next option is to pull the column and re-grease or replace the bearings.
