When I drive the Jeep the speedo reads erratically. If I am in third gear and have my foot lightly on the accelerator pedal it reads close to normal, if I am accelerating then it reads 0. The speedometer and cable are about 3-4 years old. Any ideas?

Never mind, I did a search and got some ideas. Sorry.

I need to snip off about 1/4" of the cable end that goes into the speedo because it is too long and this should solve the problem. I'm going to try it this weekend.

You need to remove one end and shoot some white lithium grease into it and spin it. If that doesn't clear it up, it's new cable time.

I'll try both ideas, one has got to work.

Jack up both rear wheels and try it. If your inner core was too long it would cause binding and cause the speedo to jump but not go to zero. Be sure that you have square ends on the core.
