Lot's of conflicting info on the threads concerning rear drum removal.

    I have 10" rear drums on my 69 CJ5.
I have (2) pc rear axles.
I have (3) flathead machine screws in the face of each drum.

I am making the logical assumption that the drums and hub are seperate units (hence the (3) machine screws holding the drums to the hub face) and should seperate without removing the hub. Hoping it is just "frozen with rust around the hub/drum centering flange.

Anyone with the (3) flathead machine screw retaining system find any different?

I believe the 10" drums are held onto the hub by the wheel studs. The wheel stud shank is splined or swaged and that hold the two together. May be easier to pull the hub/drum as a unit. Look closely where the wheel stud comes thru the drum. I'll bet you see the end of the splines protruding a little bit, holding onto that brake drum for all they're worth. 9" brakes are held on with 3 screws on my '56, came right apart. You, unfortunately, probably won't be that lucky.

69CJ; i think your right about the flat head screws.mine are retained that way. remove screws and drums come off.you may need some pb blaster or heat around drum next to hub ,but it should pop free.good luck.

From what I have seen, if you have the 3 screws the drums will pull off after you remove the screws. If there are no screws then the wheel studs are swaged to the drum and you will have to pull the hub/drum as an assembly.

Uh - ya - I have seen different on most of the rears I have pulled. For the first time, I would pull it as a set (if you have a puller or access to one) and then verify how it is.

    Just my experience YMMV
