I looked before I asked so don't hang me if I missed this question

I was trying to hook up the new master cylinder and bracket on the frame that I got from Herm and I have a problem. It won't mount up because the new one is bigger than my original and hits the back of the steering gear. Does anyone have a remedy for this.

The original was a dual m/c with the same bracket and all as the new one.

I installed Herm's kit on my '62, which had the single m/c stock. There was a bit of grinding involved to make the bracket fit, as I recall. Herm's instructions were clear about what I had to do.

In your case, it sounds like you already have a bracket in that location, if your JEEP came with the dual m/c stock. You must have already thought of this, but why not just keep the bracket you have, and get a new stock dual m/c unit? In lieu of that, the only option I can think of would be to grind the stock bracket off, and put Herm's on, to avoid the conflict with the steering.

It would be nice to keep the original (I assume welded-on) stock bracket, if you can...

The bracket wasn't the problem. I didn't intend on buying his bracket, but he sent me one anyway and I didn't feel like sending it back.

And as far as the stock M/C....according to Herm, that M/C is not available anymore. He said it was a weird setup based on the piston to thread sizes. He uses a different one that was intended to mount on the fire wall. Plus, I switched to disc's in the front and he said this m/c would work better for that. From what I was told, if you use those single or my original dual resv. m/c, you have to put a proportioning valve inbetween the front and back otherwise one will lock up before the other brakes completely when using disc's.

The problem was that the new M/C case is longer than the old one. The old one barely fit as it was and this one has extra nipples cast into the front and left side for different applications. I got in touch with herm and he said just take off the extra nipples as they are solid steel anyway. I did that and it fits now.
