Heater Help Again

Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by johnny and sandy, Dec 30, 2009.

  1. Hi does anyone know of someone that sales NOS or rebuilds the vacuum part, on a fresh air heater( I don’t know what it is really called,) the part that makes the defroster door open. It’s a vacuum thing on the heater distributor assembly on the fresh air heater unit 1964?
Thanks for your help again Jon

I had one of my cans develop a leak so knowing there would not be a direct replacement, I elected to open it up. Un-crimping very gently (marking location) I could see the diaphragm had weather checked and would no longer hold vacuum. I cleaned the diaphragm with thinner and air dried. I then placed a thin coat of red RTV over the entire surface and let dry. After drying I then re-assembled, aligning my previous marks and gently compressed the crimp zone while crimping a little at a time and going around about three times. Placed a vacuum on the unit (with vacuum gauge attached) over night. The unit is back in service.
