Some aluminum shims have been known to crack across the bolt hole and then work their way out. That's why steel is preferred.

I have a set of 2* axle shims from McRuff. Trying to keep my tie rod from hitting the right front leaf spring.

Do the shims go on the botton of the leaf spring next to the spring plate or do they go on top of the leaf spring next to axle supports? Installing the shims up on top seems the logical solution but I thought I would check here first.

On top between the spring and the axle. I think Mike cuts a relief in the top of the shim so the center bolt is in the correct position.

Here is Mcruffs 5* steel shim installed on my 1 3/4" wide spring (getting ready for a Dana 30 axle). The fastener head relief cut is there, but hard to see in the picture.

This is the passenger side spring (forward is to the right).
