Finally going to start work on the wiring. The only original wiring left is from the head/parking lights and those running from the starter relay to the alternator and the external voltage regulator. everything was toggle switches and a push button start. My wiring question is this.... can I just rewire everything with a single guage wire? I was thinking of using 14 guage wire since there are only a couple of wires larger than that needed and I can pick up the few feet needed at my FLAPS. I was looking at getting my supplies from Waytek wire. The down side is they only sell wire in 100 foot rolls (at .12 per foot). I understand that the thickness and length of the wire increase resistance, but would it cause the fuel level to read incorrect if I use 14 instead of 18, for instance? I was originally going to use toggle switches for everything, but i figured the rewire would be easier using the actual wiper/headlight/ignition switch. I am not going to use the factory heater and there is no need to wire all the knob function lights. I understand the wiring diagram and have marked off the unneeded wires. What do you guys think?

Using 14 gauge instead of 18 gauge wire for your fuel gauge will not cause a faulty reading.
Never use a smaller gauge wire than what was originally installed.
There are many custom fit wiring harnesses available for Jeeps. Although they may seem expensive at first, they really make re-wiring much simpler for this type of work.

I originally thought about a getting an EZ or other type harness, but if figured 4 circuits wouldn't be enough and 8 would be too many. Also, I was planning on using toggle switches for everything and I would have to readjust where the wires were going anyway. Outside of tools, I figure I can get my supplies for around $30, and most of that (zip ties, tape, connectors) i would have to buy anyway. But I'm electrically stoopid and may be way off base.

go slow and do one wire at a time you will do fine heavier wire is better, the amount of voltage drop in that short of a distance wont be a problem (actually I believe a fatter wire has less resistance and voltage drop than a smaller one) If you can read the diagram you can make the harness
