Bought a 73 commando that was completely disassembled. Trying to reinstall fuel tank but can't seem to find all the pieces needed (all's parts in boxes). Does anyone have pictures of an installed tank? It would be much easier if I could see it to know how it should be secured and what parts I need to install it. Thx for any help.

Hi Roger. 1st post! Welcome from Boston!

Your best resource would be the factory parts book from 1972 or 1973. I have a reprint of the '74-80 book, but last year for the Commando was 1973. Not sure where you would find the parts book ... maybe Faxon in Riverside, CA? Home Page The shop manual (TSM) is available on CD-ROM from RockAuto More Information for BISHKO 3505 but that will not show you as much detail as the parts book. There is a pretty good picture of the fuel system in the TSM, but the parts book would be better.

Thanks Tim. That's good advice because I am sure that I will be needing to refer to it quite a bit in the future. As I said, it is in pieces right now with parts in multiple boxes. Some labeled, some not and I really believe there are some extra parts that don't belong but not sure. Thanks again.

Now that I'm home, here's the pic of the Commando fuel tank from 1972 TSM -

Not that famiilar with the details of the Commando, but the tank should be supported at three points by the vehicle frame and some kind of bracket. Maybe you can figure it out from the parts you have ant the frame. Rear two corners should rest on the frame, and the front should have a bracket as shown here.

    from the parts manual
numbers shown are reference numbers only, not part numbers FYI.

Excellent, Jim. I'm sure the OP appreciates it.

Interesting to see the difference in vapor recovery and tank style between '72 and '73. I would expect everything else to be the same.
