Heater control drop bracket

    Is there a purpose to the drop bracket that attaches to the top of the stock heater controls? I'm hoping not cuz I don't have that piece

    If you have an original dash the mounting holes will accept that piece. Here's what it looks like.

    I get that, but like I said.....What is the purpose of that bracket? Would the the gear shift hit it if not there?
