I recently bought a 73 cj5 - 232-6. The tires were skinny and ugly so I replaced them with 33 x 12.50 BFG mudders. They look awesome.
Here's the question: This jeep appears to have the original suspension with no added lift but the tires don't rub anything. The leaf springs are heavy - like 9 or 10 leafs per - could this be the heavy duty suspension I've read about that gives about 2 inches of lift from the factory?

PS - Merry Christmas to all Jeep freaks everywhere!!!

I'm sure someone that knows for sure will chime in, but if it's not rubbing with 33/12.50's then I'd assume it has a small lift

If I remember one of tims reply's from another thread correct, the 10 leaf packs are the factory heavy duty springs that give 1-2 inches of lift depending on how much they sag. 2 to 2.5 inches of lift is what is recommend for a 33 but if your not stuffing tires and it doesn't seem to rub, I'd call it good.

Thanks, guys. I want to upgrade to a better leaf spring set up in the future so I think I'll need to use a 2 1/2 to 4 inch lift to compensate for not having the heavy duty springs anymore. Good to hear others have had the same experience I'm having. Have a good Christmas night...

I had the same kind of springs in my 3b removed them added 2 1/2 lift springs my jeep was now about 2 inches lower so be careful which lift you go with that lift was a skyjacker removed it replaced stock springs added a 2 inch add a leaf from rancho and some shackles instead and cost a lot less little stiff but its a jeep not a caddy
