30 spline carrier bearings

What I'm up to: I want to convert my 19 spline FF D44 to 30 spline. I am ditching my Detroit 19 spline and want to use my old open carrier for a mini spool. My question is re: the carrier bearings. I know that the 30 spline carriers use a different bearing cone. I don't know why. I just want to make sure my old carrier will work with the 30 spline axles and the 19 spline bearings. Maybe I'm over-thinking this, but when mixing and matching parts there is always the potential for disaster.

 

If you have 30 spline axles you must use a 30'spline case. 19 spline side gears won't fit in a 30 spline case or vise verse as the diameter is different because of the axle diameter difference. That's why the side bearings are different, the I'd of the bearings for the 30 spline case is larger because the bearing journal diameter is larger
The one exception is the powerlock you can swap side gears in those

Thanks, Nickmil. That's just what I needed to know. Looks like I'll need a full spool instead of the mini. Dang, I was hoping to save a few bucks by using my old case. I assume the OD on the races stays the same, otherwise you'd have to have a 30 spline centersection too.

 

I would go full spool on your rig Posi , I have seen a stock case split using a mini .

 

Looks like I don't have much choice at this point. Now I'm wondering if the 30 spline axles will fit through the spindles on my FF.
