Modifying new marker light fenders to non?

Thinking about cutting the marker light indent out of new replacment fenders and replacing the section with those from old non indent fenders?

I can not find used fenders, and I just cant see paying double the price for the new ones. the ones I have would require hours and hours of straightening...any thoughts?

 

I put the marker light fenders on because they were so much cheaper than the earlier ones. The marker lights don't bother me so I just bought a pair of front markers and installed them. I don't think it would be too hard to do what you are contemplating though.

 

It's funny that the ones with the markers were only used for a little over a year and the non-marker ones for almost 15 years, yet the ones with the markers are less money. Pay less for the more rare.......

 

I had the opposite problem. I needed side marker light in a non marker light Jeepster fender. Turning a marker fender into a non would be real easy since you're not worried about the hole and indent placement. This is the end result of my non marker converted fender.

 

It's because they use the same die for the '72+, just put a longer piece in the back half. You will also find that the inner fenders on the reproductions are notched for '72+ shocks and have to be cut out to fit '69-'71.

 

I helped a guy fill in the marker indents .
Took some 18ga sheet metal about 2" x 6" and formed one of the long edges over a rod about 5/16" round, This gave us the upper edge.
Then we cut it out to fit into the indent of the fender so it was flush with the outside. Welded it in and ground the weld flush.
On the first fender we forgot to weld up the marker wire hole so that wone had to do from the inside. The second fender did the hole first.

I do not have any pictures of this but her is one of a fender lip repair piece I made for my JEEP.
