I've bought/inherited/picked up for free six or seven CJ D30's over the last five years and I've had a 100% fail rate so far . All but one were 3.54, that was a lincoln locked 4.10.

this one had a automatic transmission steering column in it, i was thinking quadratrac. not the right ratio would be a dealbreaker

So check it before purchase. Turn the yoke. If both axles/hubs turn 1 turn and the pinion yoke turns 3 3/4 turns that would be 3.73. Maybe Timgr or someone can verify but I believe Intermediates had either 3.73 or 4.27's as an option and '76 and newer had 3.54 or 4.10 as an option. Although I have seen some real late CJ's with 2.73 from the factory.

    3.73s have a tag on them that says 41 - 11.
I've picked up two D30s over the last few years and they are both 3.73s

good to hear from you nick. i was going to check it anyway but if the 3.73 didn't come with an auto, it wouldn't be any need to drive the 40 miles at $3.89/gal. bob

Possible to ask the seller to double check the stamping on the ring gear and shoot you a pic?

I've done it for buyers before.

I hear ya. You might double check with the seller. Never know if the gears have been switched. If they aren't willing to check the gears then in my book they don't want to sell too bad.
    Hope all is well.
