Stupid Superlift!! Anyone have pics of 2.5" lift and stockish tires?

They filed chapter 18 or 13 or some damn thing, so all their 1" kits are out of stock, or on back order indefinately at the few places I tried to order from.

So now I'm thinking of one of the other 2.5'' lift kits that are readily available from all the other manufacturers.....I'm just worried it may be a bit too much height for the look I'm after. I wanna keep my open end [ hangars, so no leaf swap from a YJ or whateves. And I wanna keep close to original size tires, maybe 7.50 on 16's.

So anyway, thanks in advance for any pics!!

 

Go have a look at my 1970 build thread, they're not up close pics, but its a 2.5" lift sitting on pretty close to stock tires in the pics, I can take some up close ones if you need them

 

with such a short WB 81" . 2 1/2 springs wont hurt driveline angles and jeep will look just fine . what do you have now stock 10 or 12 leaf springs all worn out and saging

 

Sagging and broken!!

The main reason for the Superlift 1" is it'd be close to stock but have a better ride. If I liked the ride I would prolly go with a OE replacement set.

How about a Rancho 1" lift? I used it for the same reasons, it's close to original but gives a better ride. Many of my springs were broken as well. So far I am very happy with the Rancho springs. I was able to use factory size/style Gabriel shocks with no problem. I have about a 3/4" body lift. Here is a picture of my Jeep with 600x16s on the front and 215/75R-15 on the back. There is no engine or tranny/transfer case in it yet, so I suspect that it will sit a bit lower when done. I just ordered new 215/85R-16's for all 4 tires to put on the original 16" rims. Once I clean up the wheels and get the new tires mounted I can post another pic for you.

 

Does rancho still make one for the older CJ's? I only see skyjacker and superlift, the first which is no longer available....

I had the Rancho 1" springs and HATED them-it rode like a lumber truck! I sold them & got BDS 2.5" springs and now it rides like...well it still rides like a lumber truck, but they're much better than the Ranchos

 

I guess that is all relative. Growing up all we ever had on it was the stiff-as-a-board stock springs with worn out shocks and bias-ply tires. I was talking to one guy who installed new factory style springs and said that it felt like a Cadillac compared to his flat and broken original springs.

 

Aside from my old 91 Lincoln Town Car I had, my favorite riding vehicle ever was my old 70 F-250 4x, with manual drums and manual steering

*BUT*, to ever get the old lady to ride in it, or my mother with my father, the Jeep *should* ride fairly well.

I see the Rancho kit is a bit cheaper then the Superlift Superride, so I think I may go that route.

Anyone know how tall 7.00 x 16 tires are roughly in inches?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that would be about 31 inches. Where did you find the Rancho 1" lift for sale?

 

Another option, Kaiser-Willys sells two different stock height spring packages for the front end one is the heavier duty 10 leaf pack for use with a snow plow and another pack with 7 or so leaves. On my '68 when I had the 10 packs it rode like the proverbial log wagon, however, once I changed to the lighter duty pack, while it's still a JEEP the ride is much better.

 

$501 w/o shocks......shipping is still ~$85 or so.....

HOWEVER!!!!!

Stock C-style hangars [ ] don't work with these for whatever reason, or so its claimed on the page. Anyone know if different spring bushings would allow the stock hangars? I love those little things and wanna keep mine for sure. No hangar plates, chrome rims, or fat tires for me, LOL.

That pretty much looks like the kit that I got. The factory instructions recommended upgrading to "H" type shackles , but they also said that it was not necessary. What was required though was that the shackles be stock height. I really like the old style of "C" shackles so I purchased new ones when I put the Rancho springs on. I just popped out the urethane bushings on one end of the spring and the "C" shackles fit into the new springs the same way as they did on the original springs. The factory size shocks went on just fine and still had plenty of travel in both directions.

 

Did they tell you they were going out of business? I just drove to Monroe and bought a set of 2" springs directly from them not too long ago and they were blowing and going. Matter of fact, they have big ORV park near here that's pretty big.

From what I read they filed for chapter 11 back in '09 and have restructured, as far as I know there still in business.

I ordered the superlift kit from rockymountainsusp.com and about a week later they called and told me it would be on back order indefinately blah blah blah and the few other vendors I checked showed them not in stock or unavailable.

So Instead of waiting I was going to just order a 2.5" kit and be done with the chassis for the most part, but now I see the rancho 1" kit.

So IDK what's going on!!

 

I went with both super-lift and willys overland. I sold the super-lift 2.5" on craigslist a few weeks after installing them. It rode nice but I began to appreciate the stock look. Used the money to get the stock packs instead.

 

Here is how it sits with 16" wheels from a CJ2 and 215/85R16 tires. I think that they are the perfect height and width for what I was wanting. It doesn't look too tall in the pics, but the door entry guard is right at crotch level.
