I'm almost done with my Buick V6 swap and have a wiring question: installing a new Buick v6 engine wiring harness...the alternator I have is a delco 2 wire plug and a post on the back. Where does the white wire on the plug go to? Do I need to use a voltage reg or is there one built in the alternator. Thanks

White wire would go to the amp light in the stock instrument cluster. In the original wiring harness the wire to the amp light is grayish green in color.

would that serve as the "voltage sensing" wire?

No. The wire from the AMP lite going to the alternator is the exciter circuit.

Another challenge for you electrically minded jeepsters: I have a green wire coming from the back of the instrument cluster that went to the positive side of the coil on the old 4cyl.and the other end goes to one side of the fuel gauge????any ideas on why this wire would go to the coil and if I should connect it to the HEI on the V6 or just connect to any positive source? As you can tell I'm no electrical engineer. Thanks

Sounds like it's the 'power' for the fuel gauge and should be hooked up to a 'keyed' power source.

Have you thought about an EZ-Wire kit? Thier lables and diagrams will fill most of these blanks in for you and give a good, 'safe' electrical system.

That's what I was thinking but wasn't sure why it would be connected to the coil but I guess that makes sense since there is only power when the key is on. I bought a new engine harness from northwest auto wire and for the most part it's been pretty simple just a little lacking in the instruction dept. Thanks for the help. How's your newest project coming along?

We are getting there - a few setbacks that didn't allow us to take it camping, but both rigs should be done in a month or 2. I hope to be able to get my jeep back in the shop before winter hits this year :)
