good lift kit

I need to but a lift kit for my 75 CJ5, I am thinking I might go with the 3 inch black diamond kit. Does anyone have any experience with this lift. Whats a good 2.5 inch lift. Im going with 33in tires max.

 

I dont know about black diamond lifts, but BDS(Big Dicks Suspension) is a good company. they warrenty their springs, If you bend or break them, they will replace it for free. I have used their warenty as have others on this site with pleasing results.

 

I have a Black Diamond 3" and the only reason I bought it was because I got an incredibly good deal on it used. It was only slightly used and the guy sold it for something ridiculous like $175 for all four springs, spring mounting plates, shocks (also Black Diamond and less than impressive) and a bunch of used U-bolts (also worthless).

My Jeep is not yet driveable, so I don't have any impression of the ride quality, but the springs appear to be well made, have a military wrap on one end (not both), and gave me an exact 3" of measured lift before and after compared to my well worn stock springs.

I have heard many great things about BDS (which is a different company from Black Diamond, don't confuse them. Black Diamond was started by Warn and then sold to Superlift, while BDS is "Big Dick's Suspension"). Their warranty and customer service is said to be outstanding.

 

I have the kit on my '76 CJ-5. I like the kit, but didn't really have any other experience to compare it. I am able to stuff my tires into the fenders with it and had a much nicer flex than my neighbor who had an unknown lift on his YJ. I run 33" tires too with CJ width springs.

 

not sure how they are made now but look for springs that have a tapered end on the shorter leafs vereses a square end used to be that the square ends made it ride rougher, not sure about that theory now though.

 

From the little bit I've driven mine since I got it running, I like my 2.5" pro comp kit with shocks. The kit included springs, shocks, ubolts and poly bushings already pressed into the springs. I chose this kit because it was around $500 and 4wheelparts is not too far away. If it didn't fit right, I could go back to the store as opposed to shipping the heavy springs back. I've ordered all my large stuff from 4wheelparts or 4wd hardware (same company) for that reason.

 

Depends on your budget and how good you want. I have no personal experience with Black Diamond other than having owned a set of springs made by Warn, never installed, sold (project went by the wayside), then that line was sold They were very well made, but may not apply as there have probably been revisions. BDS has a very good reputation here. By all accounts contact Bob Supplee, listed in the where to buy parts section. Very good reviews. I do have personal experience with the Holbrook Spring Conversion. Excellent ride and articulation but pricey and is not a direct "bolt in", but a very easy conversion. Having more info as to what you want out of your springs, what the intended purpose is, etc. would be helpful for us to help you. What the "best" or what is "good" is subjective without knowing intended purpose.

 

I live in North Dakota so we have minimal rock crawling opportunities. Mud and snow is what I'm dealing with but nothing to hardcore, my 89 yota is for the nasty stuff. I want a small lift that will allow 33 in tires. The black diamond lift seems like a good deal but you get what you pay for.

 

I just ran into a guy today that had a BD kit. He said he liked it, that it had a nice ride, but it took awhile for the springs to break in and soften up. just thought i'd throw it out there.
