So I didn't get as much done on the Jeep as I wanted this weekend, but I did get confused a couple of times. First, I can't find the dipstick. Maybe it's missing and there's just a hole where it should be, maybe it's buried under something, I don't know. I have managed to infer from forum searching that there are at least three dipstick setups on the V6, a long tube, a short tube, and a dipstick that apparently goes directly into the block with no tube, and is a pain to find. I don't know how many of these are stock and how many were just done before the current owner ran across it and reported here, but let's just assume I have the worst case scenario, and I'm looking for a hole in the block, which may or may not have a dipstick in it. Where should I be looking for this? A photo is worth a thousand internets. I have a couple photos of my particular engine bay in my album if you think you could point it out in one of those.

Secondly, my passenger side valve cover has what I believe to be a PCV valve, or a hose going to a PCV valve on the carb, or something. Not quite sure, but I was surprised because no FLAPS part lookup seems to have a PCV for a '66. So I'm starting to think there's some less than stock changes to this motor. Am I wrong, and there was a PCV? If so, what part number should I be looking for to replace it, or should I just take it to the local store and ask them?

I'm coming to grips with the fact that the massive Haynes CJ manual just doesn't have enough application-specific coverage to be a good reference source for me.

The dip stick hole in the block is down below the #5 spark plug. My 66 block has the stick going straight into the block. No tube and it is stock for mine. The PCV valve is not jeep specific, but don't have a part number handy. GM part that fits the hole in the valve cover and your rubber tube will be just fine.

Thanks a ton, I might have missed it under the heater hose, or the dipstick could be gone, I doubt I'd have noticed that hole without knowing where to look. I'll take a closer look tonight. If you have a tube, does it simply extend out of that hole, or were there different tube locations on different blocks?

The tube would just go into the same hole. The dipstick for the ones with the extension are longer then the ones that just go into the block but they were all in the same location. Later on the 231 had the dipstick tube that went into the block closer to the bottom, don't recall 225 ever being like that.

my dipstick has a long tube that goes into the block under the #5 spark plug. the tube also has a tab to bolt to one of the exhaust manifold bolts.

My 69 225 has a tube going onto the block below #5 cylinder. My tube broke into the block. got the piece out and made a new tube with a piece of 5/16 brake line, silver soldered it to the tab that bolts on to the exhaust manafold bolt. So the oil doesn't blow back up around the tube, I soldered a washer at the spot where the tube stops at the block when bolted in place and added a leather washer. Look at my rebuild pics, you should be able to see the tube. Here's the link,

Let me know if you need close up pictures?

So yeah, finally found it last night. Oil's dark, but no grit or anything. If anyone has a spare tube and stick laying around, that would be nice, the heater box and hose really make it hard to reach.

Also, the PCV valve Echlin #29219 is not the one listed on Napa's site it seems. They recommend the 29237, which is also what FRAM cross-references to their FV164, which is recommended by O'Reilly's and FRAM's website. The strange thing though is, I pulled out a Standard Motor Parts V111, which doesn't seem to cross reference to any of their parts, and still has a different tube size. Stranger still, no one lists a PCV for a '66, I have to do a '67 or a '70 at least to get a valve to show up on any parts site. Did any '66s come stock with a PCV setup, and if so why do the parts sites not list it?
