I know this is an old topic. Ive got a 57 cj5 and Ive got the glove box door tied to the coachman's handle. I need to do better. Is anyone familiar with modifying the latch from a newer jeep? I was looking at my brothers 83 cj7 and it looks as though I can make one fit, that's if I can find one. There has to be a push button latch that can work

I used one from a Volkswagen bug. Round knob that turns, I think they made one with a key also. I had to slightly open the hole in the glove box door to fit the latch but it uses the factory piece on the dash to latch onto. I always wanted to make a new piece for the dash because it is kind of sharp but haven't done it yet.

I went to the hardware store. Ace or one of them, not Home Despot.
Bought a lock set for a mail box. One of the little latch pieces in the kit works really well with the original door and striker plate. Gives me a locked glove box.
