I'm getting ready to pull my F-134, and would like to know what size bolts to mount it to an engine stand. I figure they also need to be grade 8? What's the safest lift points on the motor?

Grade 8 for sure. You'll have to play with different lengths to see what fits, it largely depends on your engine stand. I used various size grade 8s on mine and had to use a lot of washers to shim them for length so I could get nuts on them. Sorry for the blurry picture but it is the only one I took while it was on the stand.

Thanks, Stout. What's the SAE thread/size of the bolts?

My engine did not have a thread in the the engine so I used 3/8 bolts with washers and a nuts, did not have any problems.

It doesn't matter, just use ones small enough to go through the holes and then put nuts on them. I think I used 3/8 but I can't remember, I just found ones in my stash of nuts and bolts that worked.

3/8" here too times whatever length. Grade 8's are great if you have them laying around. I've never in all my years used them, grade 5 are more than adequate.

Thanks, guys. Didn't know if the block was threaded. Haven't had oneof these apart. Let the mayhem begin!

Other than the unconventional valve design of the F head engine, these are simple to work on and very forgiving for weekend mechanics. Take lots of pictures and notes.

Whatever you do, DO NOT cheap out on the offshore crap gaskets, especially the rear main seal! There was a discussion here on a guy that's getting them reproduced to the correct spec. The OS ones are a tad too long and can cause all manner of headaches. I'm in the process of correcting a professionally rebuilt engine that was put together with cheap sh#% seals. So totally not impressed .

I was planning to use Fel-Pro or another brand name. Any suggestions? I'm not in a hurry, so no reason to skimp.

I used grade 5 3/8" Take your time, take notes, pictures, and a good manual....like what the guys say they are pretty easy to work on. I really enjoyed rebuilding mine.
