Hi fellow jeepers, I have started to make some half doors for my cj5 and would like to see some pics of other half doors. Did a search but most of the pics didn't show. My doors will be solid, the old washer died so I cut it up to make the panels from. The frame is being made out of 1 inch square tube, have bent it for the bottom half but can't decide on what shape to make the top. Any thoughts?

I run a Bestop supertop, which has 2 piece doors. With just the bottoms it looks like this-

I will tell you that I'm not really a fan of the 1/2 doors-with them on, it's hotter inside the Jeep.
Also, at high speed you get more wind buffeting than with them off. That seems counter-intuitive, but I've found it to be true.

I would think a downward inclination to the last 8 - 10 inches, then rounded all the way down. Please post up pictures, I'm looking to do the same thing eventually! I was going to use 1/2 square tube.

Here is where I'm at with the doors. I have not welded up the cuts I made to form the bends yet as I want to form the top bar first. I have bent some bits of wire for the top bar shape but not sure wich way to go. The doors will only be fitted when im driving in the rain at this stage, will make some tops for them latter when I get the soft top made.

I was gonna ask you if your photo got reversed, (right hand steering wheel) but then I noticed you're from Australia!

I recently took an old set of full soft doors and cut them and turned them into 1/2 doors. Had the handle moved and welded to a position that allowed it to catch on the body so it would close correctly. uses the existing full door mounts and they work well. the doors were from the original top late 60' so my only expense was $20 to weld the handles into a new position. I cut the upper part of the fabric as smooth as I could.

Sounds like an idea Peter, I have some soft doors at a friends place. Will get him to bring them down this weekend as we are doing some work on his cj6 project.

ozzy, the relief cuts on the tubing can be made on the inside of the frame. I used a sawzaw and made cuts about every 1/4 inch (25mm?) then bent it in to shape. This way the outside is smooth..... on the larger radius, increase the gap between the cuts a little.

Here are mine after and before paint. I bought the last set from AE Miller Mfg. There originally had a texture, but the painter took that out when it was painted. Cool thing is they use the same latch and hinges as Bestop so one door just inter-changes when you want to switch.
