I was looknig at randys ring and pinion site and noticed they had thick 4.56 gears for the dana 44, so i could keep the 3.73 and down carrier, but still have 4.56 gears. Is there anything bad about it?? has anyone every used it?? This may just be the thing to keep me from having to get new carriers :)

I believe that the 3.73 carrier will take all the numerically higher gear sets. You shouldn't need to change carriers to go to 4.56. Call Randy's, they're pretty knowledgeable about all things R&P.

On a Dana 44 the gear split is 3.92 down to 5.38. 3.73 requires a different case. There's nothing wrong with using the thick gears Dan. Done it lots of times with no problems. They are actually a little stronger as the ring gear doesn't flex as much. Nickmil.
