sterring column

I'm thinking about switching out my stock '74 column for a '76+ column. I'm looking for more room and comfort. Tilt would be a plus, but I'm really concerned with more room.
While I'm at it, would it be easier to use a '76+ pedal assembly since the brackets from the new column will bolt up??

I've noticed that the angle is different and I will have to cut the firewall a bit. Here's the problem...........Changing the angle of the column will also change the angle to the gear box. My headers may be an issue.

Any measurements or advise would help!!
