Looks like Walcks and Kaiser Willys only carry Omix-ada oil pumps. Omix stuff worries me but I figure reputable vendors wouldn't sell them if they were totally unreliable. Experiences?

NOS oil pumps are available on eBay etc. Don't forget flathead and military suppliers too.

Hey ya Stout, Get with garage gnome I think he and some of his flat fender group even had trouble with the Melling pumps. I have been looking for a good rebuild kit for mine with no luck. I'm like you the Omix-ada stuff worries me

I don't know the brand of mine but it says it was made in the USA. It is aftermarket, I purchased it about 2 years ago when I bought all the stuff to rebuild my engine. I took it out to inspect it because I suspected it (or the pressure relief valve) failed and caused my newly-rebuilt engine to starve for oil. It is the mesh gear design and I noticed when I took it apart that the primary shaft gear is rubbing against the housing wall, in fact it is so stiff that I can barely turn it by hand. Not sure if that is a problem or the cause of my oil problem but it doesn't feel right. Since it was made in the US, I know it is not Omix.

I searched for NOS on eBay but the ones on there currently do not appear to be the same.

I'm not able to guarantee anything, but the parts book I have shows the same part# for all L-head and F-head oil pumps, military and civilian, except the MB.

One word of warning - a NOS military oil pump I once purchased, the relief valve was sticky with the cosmoline and did not open. I would recommend to disassemble and clean all parts.

Always check your end clearance and set to specification with the proper thickness gaskets........I am pretty convinced improper end clearance issues were the cause of the Melling oil pump problems many were having, and any brand oil pump could lock up if there wasn't enough clearance between the gears and the end plate, once it warms up. They really aren't the sort of thing you can just slap on and tighten down all the bolts, at least not lately.

"there was a difference not with the pump itself but the gear. if you have a timing chain the oil pump gear runs backward than the timing gear style."

I'm not aware of any F-head with a chain - only the eariest L-head in the MB and CJ2A. Am I right?

That is correct......but I was just stating they ALL didn't have the same part number.
