Ok the Jeep gods are really trying to see if they can frustrate me. I am installing the flywheel today and then mounting the clutch. New clutch pack was ordered. I measured the clutch disk it measures 11" and it used the 3 arm style of pressure plate. replacement bolt to the flywheel perfectly. Great engine on the hoist all sey to drop into the engine bay realize I have to put the throw out bearing on the input shaft and the new one wont fit. Research and discover the 11" is 1.31 the old one measures 1.41 and that is the one that comes with a 10 3/8" clutch pack. Does anyone know if the the 11" disk and pressure plate can be put in place for the 10 3/8 ? only thing that makes sense every kit uses the smaller throw out with the larger clutch. I guess I'm going to buy the other bearing to go with this clutch.

When you say smaller, by what dimension?

The 360 and 401 came with the 11" clutch typically. The 258 and 304 came with the 10.5" clutch, also typically. The 11" clutch will fit fine on a 304 (and I think on the 258 too). The 3-arm is typically called "Borg&Beck" vs diaphragm for the style that uses lots of fingers and the flat spring (diaphragm). Most would prefer the 10.5" diaphragm style in a CJ, since they ordinarily take less leg strength to operate than Borg&Beck.

Note the linkage is also beefier on the Wagoneers and J-trucks (7/16" rods vs. 3/8"), which goes along with more force needed to operate the heavier 11" Borg&Beck clutch cover.

There is a throwout bearing for the Borg&Beck style, and a different throwout bearing for the diaphragm style. Possible that you have mixed them up. However, if the old and new covers are the same type (ie both Borg&Beck or not), I would expect the throwout bearing to be the same.

I would get the Luk or Sachs 10.5" kit, which IIRC would be like what the factory supplied with the 304.

Well the clutch saga continues. I decided to order the 10.5" clutch Borg&Beck style like the 11" that was installed at some point. Received that and the bearing for that one is just the bearing not the style that was on it. So I did find one from NAPA that looks correct in the picture (but we all know how accurate those are) with the correct inside diameter have to now wait until Wed. or Thurs. all the hurry up and wait reminds me of my AirForce days

    Which dimension is wrong?

You could be having some transition-year incompatibility issues. Additionally, the aftermarket listings contain a lot of mistakes, so you have to regard them with some skepticism.

If you think your parts are wrong, I'd suggest you match up the Jeep PNs for the 304. My '74-80 book shows a 10.5" clutch for the 304 in a CJ. Cover: 3184908 Plate: 3184909

It shows the 5350852 sleeve (throwout bearing) for all Jeeps with MT in 1974.

    However, the Wagoneer book (I don't have a CJ book for 1972) shows a 3190517 for 304-360 in 1972.

This is suspicious. I'm thinking you may never get the right sleeve if you keep ordering clutch kits. The '72 CJ is different from later years, in having a cable-actuated clutch, which was usually replaced with a bellcrank using a Jeep Service Kit under warranty. The '72 Wagoneer also came with a cable and a different clutch throwout lever, 999848 vs 3217480 used in 1974.

I have had this problem, I wanted the 11" disc and P/P but you need the CJ Throw out bearing, I wound up paying more and ordering things separately
