    Thanks for ID'ing it.
I just bought this D44 flanged off set rear end to stuff under my '47 2A and once home, I turned the yoke and noticed the brake drums turning in the same direction. Hmmm. Curiosity forced me to remove the diff cover and discover the locker. Just saved me from having to buy a Spartan locker. I still will have to swap out the gears to 5:38s.

Interesting because I thought the flanged axles all came with TracLok, not PowerLok. Only tapered axles got the PowerLok from the factory. That's what the J-truck/Wagoneer parts book shows, and I would presume that the CJs and Jeepsters are the same.

It's definitely not a TracLok, and I believe it is indeed a Powerlok.

After nearly 50 years I would guess it had been changed out with the Powr-Lok limited slip rather then it being a OEM part.

I agree with mike......The gasket does not look like it's from '71, either. Most likely that this cover has been off since it's beginning, so the Powr-Lok could have been installed after.
timgr..... Could a '71 have come stock with an open case ?

Sure. LSD is optional, with open standard, regardless of which axle it has. Or the original equipment TracLok could have worn out or broken (common!) and been replaced by an aftermarket PowerLok.

We were selling and installing Power Loks in these axles back in the day.
Being an IH dealer, we could source the 30 spline units from IH.

OK, Bronco used Power Locks from what I have been reading up on so maybe that is where the locker came from. I too thought it should be a trac lok.

Power locks are limited slips, not lockers.
Case break is 3.73 to 2.54(whatever) and 3.92-5.38. With a Dana 44 Powerlock you can interchange 19/10/27/30 spline side gears. You cannot do this with an open case.

Yes it is a L.S. To bad a 44 unit would not fit in a d 30 frt diff.
