A ways off for me but I am considering at some point having a spray-on liner, such as Rhino or Duraliner, to the interior of my CJ5. I already know how durable it is, but I also understand that it may eliminate some road noise. It'll also make cleaning easy as I can just hose out my interior. The only thing is if I go into this with hosing out in mind, I may end up getting a marine radio and speakers opposed to automotive. Just thought I'd gather some thoughts on the subject!

    LET THE OPINIONS BEGIN!!! :D

    Do anything but Herculiner.

Walking around the Jeep show last weekend there were a *good* number of Jeeps with Herc. inside. They were either fresh-looking (armouralled) or ratty looking - like SSDutch. It's just darn hard to clean out the herc. with the texture it has.

A spray-in (or maybe Durabak smooth) will be more $$, but be much more livable, IMHO.

There were even a few who had Herc'd the rollcage - no *way* I'd ever do that....

Hmmm... the Rhino has a heavy textured appearance, as well. I had it in the back of a pickup years ago. So I guess you're referring to dirt getting into all the crevices of the 'texture'?

I wish I still had a pic but when I was searching Classic Auto Trader for a jeep, I found one whose EXTERIOR was painted in Herculiner. The owner should be put before a firing squad and shot!

I went to a LINE-x (spelling may be bad) shop the other day to get a quote for my dodge pickup.

Line-x is a national franchise, so you probably have one near you. They are new to this area.

They were a little pricey at $460 for the bed alone, but I thought they had a pretty good product. It does not fade from UV light (they say).

When I do the bed liner I'm going to use line-x to do it unless I find something I like better.

Yep - here's the only way I can clean out my trailer, also lined with Herc:

Anything short of that angle and I can't get the dirt free from the texture.

That would be interesting if I could do THAT with my jeep! :D

There are several guys in our club that Herculined their entire Jeep. Body, frame, dash, everthing. I guess you can get it in several colors. When they want to shine it up, just coat the Jeep in ArmorAll and it looks "new" again. They like the "bulletproofness " (is that a word?) that it gives them.

I did Herculine the rear area of my M38-A1. Seemed to quiet it down somewhat, at least nothing rattles back there anymore. Cleaning isn't too bad.....but, come on.....really, how often do you clean your Jeep... :)

I'd just like to be able to occaisonally sweep it out, and can't.

The big question I have is, once you've got Herc and want something else, what then? I'd like to topcoat it with smooth Durabak, but not sure if anything will stick.

JMO - you make your Jeep a lot harder to sell if you bed-line the exterior. It's a look that isn't universally appreciated. Many say they're never going to sell their Jeeps, but you never know - marriage, divorce, kids, that dream job in Japan, whatever... IMO you always should consider the resale value.

Used Herculiner came off in places. Used this http://www.durabakcompany.comliked it a lot. I bought some bedliner that I used the body color paint to color it. I liked it best. Can't remember the name now,but I liked it being the same color as the rest of Jeep. Anything to cut down on the "slickyness" when it's wet.
<edit> Pigment color liner is something called "Hippo Liner" available at the paint store I bought the paint to paint Jeep at.

I like the idea of the liner being the same color as the jeep as well. I though about spray on before, but as concerned about . . . . heat. All the lined jeeps I had seen before had black interiors. In the summer, I run the (soft) 1/2 cab with everythign rolled up that will roll, but with all the sunlight coming in, I don't need to broil. With the top off, I think it would be even worse.

I don't know what shape your jeeps are in, but mine does have a little rust in the bed. I'd be worried that the metal would rot and you wouldn't know until you fell through....any thoughts on this???

I am building a new Fire Truck for next year with a bigger Water Tank and thinking of using it to keep the inside from rusting from the water? I wonder how good it stays on like for 5-10 years or so. Sure hate to have chunks come off and clog nozzles and pumps later! Mark H.

I've considered the stuff for various vehicles, but each time I decided to stick with paint. If I ever get the itch for the "textured" look, I'll spray on "trunk spray" paint, and live with it for a few months until I either come to my senses, or decide to make it permanent.

Herc is too rough for my liking.

Duraback, even the textured stuff has a smoother texture. Rhino liner has a larger texture than Herc.

Thought about the Scorpion bedliner for the trailer. Like Line-X or Rhino, professionally sprayed in.

Durabak can be sprayed in for a smoother texture, but if you are going to roll it on, it will be rough. I did Durabak with mine top and bottom, rolled it in, and it's rough enough to be slightly uncomfortable with bare feet. (But my feet aren't really calloused either...) I can see the point about the dirt and dust showing, but if you pick one of their lighter colors, you won't see it.

FWIW, I did the Durabak to make the underside and floor of the tub "bullet proof", and it sure looks like I succeeded....Don't know how much it quieted it down, but I imagine it's quite a bit.

Since Bill is a Jeep, allow me to answer for him ;) ....No. I just ordered the regular Durabak. I was not aware of a smoother version.
