I've been wanted more power since I switched to 35's.,About 15 yrs ago I went to the Glamis dunes, first time with the 2G it was terrible ,2nd time I threw a Holley 390 on there and bam had so much more kick in the pants ....problem was next trip we went to a rock pile and the carb SUCKED .so I pulled it and drained it and put it in a closet in the shop........now fast forward to yesterday . pulled off the 2G and bolted the Holley on filled the primary bowl and pushed the button .vroom vroom ,it started right up and idled WAY smoother than the stock carb .the accel pump was crispy hard and fuel barely sprayed out ........

today ,I opened up my box of Holley parts from the 442 and replaced the pump and blew it all out real good. I went to the hardware store and bought 2 lengths of pipe . Then I pulled out the pipe vents and made my own avenger vent, added a bowl whistle, soldered over jets 3/4" to extended the jets...and threw it on,,,,, really running good now. Vent works!!! if I cover the holes motor dies . but can't leave the driveway ,no linkage yet or air cleaner ....
plan to hunt down some spring loaded needle and seats,,,, fab up new throttle mount .

    I have a Dauntless,running a Offy 360,HEI, and Hooker super comps . Holley is a very old 8007.jets are 512,powervalve 7.5,pump cam is orange #2 hole ,,,,,, I have a 1 " spacer too if I want to mess with that .

I'll give this tiny Holley a try ,I don't know how it will do with where I go or wheel but I wont have too much into it and I can always go back to the 2G

    Steve,

The 2G at least the one that has the 1.250 sized venturii's has the same 390 CFM rating as does the Holley 390 CFM 4 barrel # 8007............The Holley does have a smaller primary bore than the 2G which might partially explain the different running characteristics...........IE;Smaller bore and vacuum operated secondaries that only open when the motor vacuum signal is there would equal less CFMs under part throttle.......Lots of different things between the two and lots of ways to tune either...............I like your vent tube! and No I have no extra air cleaners , just the K&N.

Please excuse my ignorance. What is the reasoning behind the vent tube like that? What does it accomplish and why should i do the same thing?

    Thanks

It prevents fuel from coming out of the bowl vents when operating at extreme angles.

this is my typical wheeling ....2G ran just fine on this angle .........picture the angle the carb is on ,,,,with a holley the vent holes are unobstructed fuel would be pouring out flooding it.. then killing your battery tring to restart on the vertical run

I am gathering parts to put the holley 390 / offy intake on my V6 also. I found these guys (allstate carbs) while searching for holley parts. Good service and fair prices. I got the offroad kit from them for mine it included the vent tube, spring loaded floats and whistle tubes.

Ok, now i understand. I have never been in that position in a jeep. tractor, bulldozer, yes. I also never had a jeep that would be able to do that, well more than once.

Keep us updated on what you end up with in settings and parts. I need to find my old notes, but I'll be setting another 390 up for the '62 when I get there (FI on my stuff, carbs on for other folks ;) ).

Never had seen the 512 code on a jet before and found this

The 2 means that it came in an OEM carb and it is exactly a 51 jet. The ones that come in aftermarket carbs and that you buy separate, may vary a little bit. This insures that when the OEM installed Holley carbs at the factory, that they are all calibrated exactly the same.

    Thanks
    for the info

Just did the same mod on my 225 in my 2A. I just slid fuel line tubing over the vents and connect ed to a tube almost identical to yours. My thought was , if it didn't work, I could put it back to factory pretty quick.

I did a mod like that to my 390 Holley when I was about 17 yrs old. Used two chunks of fuel line slipped over the vent tubes and a T-fitting pointed straight up between them. Worked awesome! Yours is much tidier. Then I bought a 670 truck avenger...... Worked just as well on my 289.. Now it has a 5.0 in it that has yet to run in the jeep as a fuel injected motor.... one of these days.

ok little more done , found that so far the #25 Squirter is the happy shot with the accel pump screw in the #1 hole...... I also threw under the carb a 1" spacer .drove it around .....super smooth off idle .going to change the power valve to a 6.5 because that's all I have in my holley parts box .the 7.5 that's in there is a bit stiff from drying out after so long .... I ran the #'s and it came with a 6.5 originally .... I think I need to remove the jet extensions too because when the float drops it limits the travel which will slow down fuel supply ............ also going to plumb in a manifold vacuum gauge to see what # pv I can really use . all test runs are done with it 35's aired down to 10............should then maybe be a rocket when aired up ...........haven't went WFO yet
