Tranny transfer case ID?

    So been looking at the tech section and I have discovered that my tranny is a T15 not a T14. The guy I bought it from had mentioned making an adaptor plate for the tranny, I dont think one would be needed for the 225. So now I am wondering about my transfer case the case is a Dana with tag # 300146-10 947384. Is this a Dana 300? any ideas would be very helpful.

    I'd say Dana 18 with that P/N. Is the rear driveshaft directlu behind the engine or offset to the right, inline with the front driveshaft? Why do you think you have a T15?

    I believe it is a t15 because the cast # starts with 1307, and the T14 should not need any kind of adaptor to attach to the 225, correct? I am new to these old jeeps so I may be wrong.

    Like Tim said, is the rear output centered, or offset. Centered=Dana 20, Off set=Dana 18....

    The rear out put is off set so i guess it is an 18, did not know if it had a different transfer case because of the tranny swap.

    Yes the t14 needs an adapter to couple to all 225 bellhousing except the dreaded 1971 model which has the adapter cast with the bellhousing.

    as you already have found out, your transfer case part number comes back as a single lever D18, used with the V6, 4:88 axle ratio and T-14 transmission

    Man,
    this is great help i am getting. I am still confused on the tranny though, the cast # matches up with the numbers given in the tech section, and on the drivers side there is a small round protrusion above and between the two large side protrusions that is clearly visible on the T15 pic but is not seen on the T14 pic. has anyone heard of this swap breing done before? from what I've read the t15 is a strong tranny but it was only installed on the V8 engine.

    T15 only used (factory) 1972-1975 CJs V8 304; FSJ 1972-1979 360 401?
    not that it couldn't be adapted (all it takes is $$$)
    the tranny conversion gurus have to take it from here

    Measure the overall length of the transmission and be specific the t14 I think is 8.68" long the t15 is about 1/2" longer.

    Just the case length!!
    Correction the case length is 8.75"
    This is a picture of the factory adapter for the 225 dauntless to the t14.

    What about the cast # 1307 is T-15 and 1302 is T-14, correct?

    Can't remember as it has been 6 years since I had my transmission out to rebuild.

    Is the adapter cast into the bellhousing or transfer case? Why "dreaded"?

    Cast into the Bellhousing, (dreaded) Because this bellhousing is useless for any other transmission, the face is reduced down to the size of the transmission which does not leave enough face material for a t18, t98, np435,sm420 or sm465 to be attached to the unit if you want a swap. You can't even fit most of the heavier 3 speeds to it as it was made to fit the t14 specifically!!

    People have swapped the T15 in place of the T14 behind the 225, but it doesn't just bolt in. There was a thread about putting a T15 behind a T14 recently, or Nick would know. Which page has these casting numbers?

    BTW, FYI (not being picky) the T15 came stock behind the 350, 360 and 258 in FSJs. The 401 was always paired with a TH400, at least in Jeeps.

    Jeeptech.com is a great resource, but it's been known to be in error. Here's an example - look at http://www.jeeptech.com/wiki/index.php/Transmission/Factory/T-15 - it says "The T-15 was used only in V8 equipped CJs and Jeep trucks from 1972 to 1975" which is clearly wrong. I own a 6-cyl '77 Jeep truck with a factory T15, which contradicts that statement on two counts. Not putting jeeptech.com down, but it covers a lot of different years and configurations, and there are bound to be errors.

    I think it's more likely that you have a T14, since that's what came with the V6s. If you take the floor plate off, there should be a tag on the top of the transmission (like on the transfer case) that will spec the trans exactly. It's under one of the top cover bolts. That, or measure the length of the case - T14 and T15 will be different.

    Not as sure on the T-15 if it shared a case with the T-14, but on mine you pop the top off the tranny and T-14A (I believe) is stamped where the cover mates to the tranny case.
