One question...Boyink...can I be out 180 degrees and be OK or is there a specific top and bottom to the yolks? Or left and right however it sounds better.

Just as long as the 2 ends are in alignment with each other. On larger driveshafts it usually is a good idea to punch mark them before disassembly, so that they go back the same. Shouldn't be a prob with the smaller jeep shaft though

I was an project manager at a steel fab company for years and had a welding supply salesman that always came in dressed in a suit. I would get one of the weldors to sneek out under his truck and duct tape a 3/4 x4 or so bolt to his drive shaft. When he left and reached about 30 mph the vibration would nearly lift the tires off the ground. Always ruined a shirt climbing under it to cut the bolt off.

Tieing a large zip tie around the driveshaft is fun too. Leave the long tail on it as it goes round and round slapping the floor. :D:D

What finally cleared up the problem?

Nothing has cleared it up...I've installed new u-joints and had the wheels balanced....

The guy at the tire shop said that my tires were way out of round...I looked at the tire spinning on the balance machine and it was bouncing up and down pretty bad....so I guess that new tires is going to be the only thing that will fix it. And since these tires are pretty danged new, and since it only vibrates @ speeds above 55...I'm just going to drive slower.

Not sure what happened to the tires or even if the guy at the tire shop was correct, but they did look to be bouncing up and down quite a bit.

    BB's in your tires maybe?

I bought a set of these that did the same thing. Maybe its the way the tire was molded.

It could be...I've to the Interco TrXus Tires and they're a pretty aggressive tire..probably more attention paid to traction than road use. Problem is...I can't sell them without revealing the fact that they ride rough. And that alone is enough for them not to sell. They're practically new tires...probably not 2000 miles on them.

I should clarify, PUT BB's in it or there some fancy Sand stuff that's suppose to help equal out tires.

    Seriously??? Never heard of that.

Don't know how the water would have gotten in there Billy...

One point though...while the tire was spinning on the machine the owner of the shop used a little wrench as a straight line and held it up behind the wheel to check the wheel for roundness. The wheel was also a tiny bit out of round. Basically as the tire spun there was a spot where the distance from the edge of the wheel to the straight edge got larger each time that spot passed over the straight edge...clear as mud?

These are the 8" KH wheels I bought here....they were supposed to be practically brand new (30 yrs old) wheels.

The shop owner said it wasn't uncommon at all for a brand new wheel to be out as much though.

Check out these Dyna Beads...supposedly you throw away all the old wheel weights and remove your valve stem and pour whatever recommended amount of this stuff in through the valve stem,...replace old valve stem with their special filtered stem and then air up the tire and drive. The Dyna Beads balance the tire for you.

    Well duh...

I was thinking I might have one of those holes in my tire that will let water in but not let air out...you know what I'm talking about don't you? I'm sure you've had those before too.
