I have an intermediate CJ that I'm almost done restoring. The wiring was not working or hooked up when I bought the jeep.

The headlights and front park lights work fine.

The problem is the brake lights and turn signals.
Important Note: I bought a new set of LED taillights for the CJ and there are (3) wires coming out of the back of the lights:

    Black
    Red
    White

The wiring harness for the back of the jeep is listed below, and any help would be greatly appreciated:

    Drivers side Rear:

    Green with White Stripe
    Light Blue
Yellow (I see +12 v on this wire)
White....could be grey...it's dirty so not sure of original color

    Passenger Side:

    Orange
    Yellow
    Green

Any help to get my turn signals or brake lights working would be appreciated.

    Thank you
    Mike

    What year is your Jeep?

Does it have the original wiring harness?

The general advice is to get the wiring diagram and trace out the connections. Wiring diagrams are included in the factory service manuals (FSM, TSM).

Brake lights and turn signals go through the turn signal switch. This is the usual location of trouble.

It's a 74 but I'm not sure about this being the correct wiring harness. It appears to be original.
I'll look for a wiring diagram.
    Thank You

FWIW, incandescent replacement taillights have two wires, one for tail and one for signal/brake. The third wire on the LEDs is probably ground. My license plate bracket with LED light had a white ground wire.

You say you see 12v on the left rear yellow wire? Is it 12v also on yellow wire on right rear? Do you have a trailer towing package?

I am pretty sure the third wire on the LED is ground. I know you want to just get it hooked up but now is a good time to wire in a towing plug in. Walmart has them.

Thanks for the TSM and all other advice.
I was able to get everything working except for the LEFT turn signal.

When I turn on the lights, everything works (front and rear) including park lights, tail lights, brake lights, etc... No problems.

The RIGHT turn signal works (front and rear).

TEST 1: When the light switch is turned on....
When I turn on the LEFT turn signal, the rear brake light comes on like it wants to blink....but it just stays on and does not blink.
The Front park light does not blink....but it is working - light is on.

TEST 2: When the light switch is turned OFF...
When I turn on the LEFT turn signal, the rear brake light comes on like it wants to blink....but it just stays on and does not blink.
The front park light does not come on....it stays off.

Any suggestion or idea what it could be ?

    Thanks

Ok, Found the problem after replacing the turn signal mechanism on the column.
It was the wiring harness coming out of the turn signal mechanism, where it connects to the main wiring harness going to the lights (At the Connector Junction).

There is an intermittent connection for the left turn signal. When I turn on the left signal nothing happens, but when I bend this harness and specifically at the connector, it starts working.

    It drove me crazy.
